NEWS RELEASE: Voter Participation Center Mailers Continue to Confuse Voters

Marion County, FL. –June 15th, 2016: The Marion County Election Center is receiving multiple complaints from confused and upset voters that received a letter from the Voter Participation Center located in Washington, D.C.  The letter includes a voter registration application, notifying the voter that they are not registered to vote and need to complete the form and mail it in the pre-addressed postage-paid envelope. Similar letters were mailed to voters in April of 2016, resulting in the same outcome.

“Most of the calls to our office are from voters stating they are already registered to vote or that the letter was sent to an incorrect address or deceased family member,” said Pam Fencl, Voter Services Manager. “While addressing each voter’s concern, we pull up their record to verify their registration status and to ensure that we have the correct information on file. If everything is accurate, we advise them to disregard the mailer.”

We would like to inform voters that these letters are being distributed from the Voter Participation Center and that neither the Marion County Supervisor of Elections, nor the Florida Secretary of State has printed or mailed these letters and the information may be outdated and inaccurate.

You can verify your registration status anytime by visiting VoteMarion.com or calling the Election Center at 352-620-3290. If you receive anything in the mail regarding your voter registration and you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact us.

If you would like to report or be removed from future mailings, the Voter Participation Center can be directly contacted at at (877) 255-6750 or www.voterparticipation.org.
