What is redistricting?

Once every 10 years, following the U.S. Census, legislatures must redraw their congressional and state voting districts to account for population changes and maintain equal representation.
Local School Board and County Commission are responsible for redrawing their own districts.

When will the new district maps be available?

Florida Constitution requires Congressional, Florida Senate, and Florida House district maps to be approved during the legislative session (January 11 – March 11, 2022).
Proposed maps and updates can be viewed on the Florida Redistricting website, www.FloridaRedistricting.gov.

Local County Commission and School board district changes must be made in odd-numbered years. Marion County’s new School Board districts were adopted in October 2021 and County Commission districts remain unchanged. Updated maps are available here: www.VoteMarion.Gov/Maps.

What is the Supervisor of Elections’ role in the redistricting process?

Once the Florida Legislature and local governing bodies finalize their district maps, we can redraw our precinct boundaries, assign new precincts and polling locations, and notify voters of these changes.

How does this affect me as a voter?

Districts determine which elections you are eligible to participate in, your representatives, and the contests that appear on your ballot. Your representatives, precinct, and polling location may change.

When and how will I be notified of these changes?

All Marion County voters will be mailed a new voter information card once redistricting is complete (estimated by early June 2022). Your new voter information card will contain your precinct and polling place information as well as your new legislative, congressional, and school board districts.
